Get Fit for Spring with 5.11
The best workout is the one you actually complete. With Spring turkey season quickly arriving, the time is also now. Workouts don’t have to be performed in a structured gym or require expensive equipment at home. The key is to get out and move! If you want to up your game from simply walking or running (which are fantastic options!), a small investment can propel your fitness to the next level.
Walking, running, hiking, all help with endurance and cardiovascular health and are the most basic of movements required to be safe and successful in the woods. Performing resistance training will help increase strength, add muscle, and only improve your odds of bagging whatever game it is you’re chasing.
Resistance training in not so many words translates to adding weight to an exercise and moving said weight. One convenient way to tack on some poundage is a weight vest. 5.11 Tactical offers the TACTEC Trainer Weight Vest for just this purpose. With plate inserts ranging from 5.75 lb to 13.5 lb a range of resistances can be met. To further their training line 5.11 also has athletic clothing for your workouts. Pictured in all the photos are the Forged Hoody and Havoc Jogger pants. As you can see, stretch fabric allowed for plenty of mobility while wicking all that excess sweat away. Now that you’ve increased the load and you’re dressed for success, here are a few of the exercises you can utilize to prepare for your Spring adventure.
Squats
If I only did one weight training exercise, it would be the squat. Build strong legs and core to keep you up and hunting all day long.
Lunges
Never skip leg day. After a successful hunt, you’ll need to have the lower body fortitude to pack your trophy out of the woods.
Step Ups
It’s now always flat where the game is. There is a good chance you’ll be gaining and losing altitude throughout the day. Use step ups to simulate fighting the uphill battle.
Push Ups
A little upper body strength goes a long way and push ups don’t require any equipment. Plus, they do a number on your core as well.
Reverse Dips
Another upper body exercise that can be performed with a few items you have laying around the house are reverse dips. I like doing these because it gives me a really good stretch between my shoulders and chest along with the obvious strength gains.
